7 Minutes With David Gandy

PHOTO : MARK JESALVA |  by Sandra Pineda

International British supermodel David Gandy is finally here! The highest-paid male model, who's walked alongside Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell during the 2012 Summer Olympics, modeled for the SM Men's Fashion show on Thursday, October 24, at the SMX Convention Center.

Cosmo.ph sat down with the hot hunk for seven minutes (we wish we had more time!) to talk about his style icons, his get-fit secrets, and what he tells people who say he's just another good-looking guy.
On his bucket list:

"It changes because opportunities open. But I'd like to do some creative directing for fashion and branding—maybe come up with my own fashion brand. Acting isn't something I want to pursue. Maybe if the right project came along, I'd jump into it, but it hasn't so far."

On his style icons:

"I go back to history, really. I look at Hollywood greats like Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Cary Grant, and Prince Charles, who are immacutely dressed all the time."

On five things in his closet he can't live without:

"A suit, t-shirts, sunglasses, shoes, and watches."

On his favorite model moment:

"It still is the Light Blue ad from Dolce & Gabbana. It's a shoot that you dream of, and I haven't had anything as big as that. I've always wanted to work with the best creatives, and create something pretty astonishing. I was on a speedboat with Mario Testino at 6:00 a.m., and that was the first time I'd worked with him. I felt a little intimidated."

On misconcepcions about models:

"God, there's a like a million of them. People think we're not intelligent, but hopefully I prove them wrong with what I do."

On saying yes to SM:

"I'm very choosy with the brands I represent. When SM Men's Fashion approached us, I looked at their history. I saw that they worked with Sarah Jessica Parker last year. I like the fact that SM makes fashion accesible for everyone. And that's what I try to do. I write about fashion in Telegraph, Vogue, and GQ. That's how I try to make fashion for everyone.

"I'm wearing SM's trousers and t-shirt right now. I stole these from the shoot yesterday, and everyone seems to love these trousers."

On his fitness secret:
"I'm not built for running—not long distances. But  I have done a marathon, though. I get this question a lot, so I have the David Gandy Fitness app. It's all there."

Kate Moss, Lily Donaldson, Karen Elson, Georgia May Jagger, Lily Cole, Naomi Campbell, Stella Tennant, Jourdan Dunn e ... David Gandy.

Lei come è riuscito a ottenere così tanto successo?

Modello jeans in foto - Cane I27 de Pepe Jeans London (85 €).

Amo i vecchi mobili industriale e orologi francesi.

David Gandy and Mollie King - The Hoteliers?

For all the cynics out there thinking David Gandy was back on the market after failing to be seen with Mollie King recently - think again.
In fact, far from calling it quits on their romance, the lovebirds have been hatching plans to move to India.
Despite jetting around the world on exotic photoshoot locations, the handsome model, 31, is prepared to give it all up to be a hotelier.

Gandy, 31, said: 'I’d love to invest in a hotel in somewhere like Mumbai and move over. Whatever will be will be. 'We don’t need to worry about the future when we’ll be spending the next 40 years together. I can definitely see us lasting that long.'
Dismissing recent rumours of a split with the Dolce & Gabbana model, Mollie told Now magazine: 'There are always silly stories about us but we're
very much still together. Sorry, he isn't back on the market, girls.'
And speaking of his romantic side, she added: 'David must've seen this in a movie... but when I got back from a gig one night he'd lit candles all over my apartment.
'I was there looking really rough in a tracksuit but I thought it was so cute.'

Modelo Masculino: David Gandy

David Gandy for Breil

Following in the footsteps of Charlize Theron, Edward Norton and Monica Belluci, David Gandy has just signed to be the new face of Breil.

He stars in a new commercial shot by Michael Haussman which you can catch on screens very soon. You can view a little behind-the-scenes clip below (featuring the stunning Kasia Smutniak):

I’m a huge fan of Breil watches; founded in 1906 by Innocente Binda (great name), the brand has been built on the concept of pairing timeless Italian style with the accuracy of Swiss manufacturing. Fitting, I suppose, as Binda was born on the Swiss-Italian border.

Mr. Blasberg's Book Corner: David Gandy by Dolce&Gabbana

Welcome back to Mr. Blasberg's Book Corner, the feature wherein our editor at large Derek Blasberg picks his read of the week, and meets the author. But this week, Blasberg chats with the subject! David Gandy by Dolce&Gabbana is the Italian fashion house’s tribute to today’s icon of male beauty. Blasberg chatted with the Essex boy turned international male supermodel about how his life — and his style — has changed since winning a London modeling competition and becoming the (very chiseled) face of Dolce and Gabbana.
Derek Blasberg: Let's talk a little bit about your biography, David. Anyone who has read a magazine in the past few years knows your face, but probably not your story.
David Gandy: I was born in Essex and grew up in a very small town called Billericay. Whilst at university, a friend sent in some pictures of me to a modeling competition where the first prize was a contract with Select Model Management. And I won.
DB: Growing up, did you ever think you could make a living out of having your picture taken?
DG: I literally never thought of being in the fashion industry growing up; clothes were more a necessity rather than an interest. I didn't quite realize how much fashion brings into a country's economy until I worked in the industry. It’s billions of dollars, and people will always need clothes. This may be at the luxury end or on the high street, wherever people are going to profit from it.
DB: You've had a prolific relationship with Dolce and Gabbana. Do you remember the first time you met them?
DG: Of course I do. It was for a fitting in 2002 for their runway show.
DB: What were some of your first impressions?
DG: Funnily enough, the second time I went to the fitting for the show they wanted to cut my hair. I refused and ended up walking out and didn't go back to do the shows in Milan for 4 years. I have huge amounts of respect for Domenico and Stefano now. What they have achieved is astonishing and even after 25 years they still show so much passion for pushing the boundaries of fashion. The majority of the most memorable shoots I have done have been with Dolce and Gabbana. Especially the shooting and filming of the Light Blue fragrance commercials.
DB: Before you worked with brands like D&G, would you have considered yourself a stylish man? Are you more put together now that you've had success in this industry?
DG: Working with some of the best creatives in the world of fashion has certainly taught me a lot about style. After 10 years, I probably couldn’t help but subconsciously absorb a lot of information along the way. Last year, I developed an App called "David Gandy's Men's Style Guide" to share what I've learnt with other guys and help with advice and tips on men's styling.
DB: There's this great quote in the book about which is your favorite part of your body. You say your eyes, but then you admit that you have bad vision and you're color blind. Is there a part of your body that you don't like?
DG: Of course. Probably too many to list!
DB: Do you have a favorite picture in the book?
DG: Each picture has a story to it. This is the beauty of the book to me. To others it may be just a collection of pictures, but for me it's a collection of amazing memories.
DB: Do you have a favorite fashion experience, like a favorite shoot or a favorite location?
DG: New York is very inspiring to me, but the best locations are in Italy: Capri and the Almalfi coast
DB: Do you still go home a lot? What do your friends and family think about your success?
DG: I left Billericay when I was 18. I go back now and again to see friends, but my parents moved 6 years ago. But I hope my friends and family are as proud of me as I am of them.
DB: Looking back on your career, if you weren't working in the fashion industry, what do you think you would be doing?
DG: Working with animals. Or maybe a motoring journalist.

Male Supermodel David Gandy on His Books, His Nose, and Zoolander

The ubiquitous British model David Gandy is also a blogger (for Vogue.co.uk), a style expert (look for the David Gandy Style Guide for Men in the iTunes app store), and now the subject of a book. With the release of David Gandy, a compilation of his work for Dolce & Gabbana, he opens up about the industry, how he stays in shape, and yes, those Zoolander comments.

Congratulations on the book (See below for an extensive preview). How'd the project come about?

I've worked with Dolce & Gabbana since my first year of modeling 10 years ago—that's how long we go back. And by now we've done so many projects together: the Light Blue campaigns, the commercials. It's just kind of swelled. I was obviously honored to have a book named after me.

Their work with you really changed the way we think about male beauty. With Light Blue, it wasn't that Hedi Slimane skinny-boy look anymore.

There are definitely trends. Sometimes skinny guys are in, and so you have the androgynous guys and the Dior guys. And then the male form comes back in, and at the end of the day, that sells.

Even your own look has changed from when you started a decade ago.

Oh God, there's an absolute divide from where I started. I came into the fashion industry straight out of university at 21, but I looked 15. It was just embarrassing. And why wasn't I working much? Well, I look back at it now and I understand why. I looked like a bunny in headlights on film, I was so fresh-faced and young. But the thing with male models is that they usually get better with age.

So you feel like you've grown into your looks?

Thankfully, yes. Or grown into my nose, should I say. [Laughs]

Is that something you're not totally comfortable with?

I think everybody has hang-ups about their bodies. I have quite a big nose, a prominent nose. Some people love it, some people hate it. I have scars in my eyebrows. I have a scar in my eye from sport. Some people will say, "Oh, it makes you look aged. Your scar tells a story. We'll keep it, we love that." For others, it's just not going to work.

What do you do to maintain your looks? Any special diet?

I love my food, but I do have to be careful. Everything in moderation. Drink, fatty foods, trans fats, everything. A lot of the American guys have such a strict diet of fish and vegetables, and there are things they just will not touch, like a latte. If they're having a coffee, they will not touch milk. And of course, they won't have any sort of chocolates, sweets, or bread. That, to me, isn't living. I'm careful, but I'm not pedantic about it.

How about before a big shoot?

If I have a big underwear shot, like when I had the Light Blue campaign shoot, maybe a month and a half before that I'm extremely careful. I come off the drink, and I come off a lot of carbohydrates and salts. I won't eat carbohydrates after 5 p.m. when I have something coming up.

What's your biggest indulgence?

I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, and I can give up alcohol very, very easily. But I'm a bit of a caffeine addict. I get out of bed and I'm not quite right until I've had a coffee. I have a machine at home, but there's a Colombian coffee shop down the road from my London home as well. I think I've paid their mortgage over the last few years.

What's your exercise routine like?

If I'm at home, I train four or five times a week: a lot of cardio and a lot of weights. I also really believe in changing it up and shocking your body, because your muscles and metabolism adjust to these exercises. I actually ran a marathon recently, and I had to lose weight because I'm 203 pounds, and that's a lot of weight to pound down on the concrete streets of Old London for 26.3 miles. So I went down to 190. I came off heavy weights and did a lot of lighter weights with more repetitions to lose the bulk.

You've spoken out against the stigma associated with male modeling. Do you think the profession's image has improved any?

It's slowly changing. It seems everyone wants to be a model. Guys are coming in now at 16, 17, and are proud to say, "Yeah, I'm a male model." We never used to say we were male models when we first started. None of the top guys said it.

So the world of male models isn't really all Blue Steel and gasoline fights?

The only access people have had to male modeling is really Zoolander—which is an amazing film and I hope No. 2 gets made. But it's an exaggerated version of what happens. That really is the major question I get asked about male modeling: "Is it like Zoolander?" Well, Zoolander is a comedy. It's not a documentary.

What is the craziest thing that's happened to you in your job?

Well, it's kind of embarrassing that I was on a 50-foot poster in Times Square in a very small pair of pants. That's not a normal thing. But you get kind of immune to it because you've got to be very comfortable with your own body.

David Gandy Party by Andrea Ravieli & Enrico Costantini

Here's our favourite batch of pictures from Dolce&Gabbana's David Gandy Book Launch Party.

My Date with David Gandy

Sit down because I have some news.
After three years in Milan, I’ve finally found a boyfriend. I know, I know. It’s surprising (“who would date her”) and considering he isn’t gay, in jail or dealing drugs it’s almost unbelievable. You might actually know him. He’s tall, strong and has a great ass. His blue eyes can kill you and his accent makes you melt.

And his name is David Gandy.

During Milan Men’s Fashion week this Saturday I was backstage at Dolce&Gabbana interviewing models (taking pictures of them in their underwear), eating free sandwiches and generally making an ass of myself. I was there to “work” (have fun) but mostly I was there for David.
We had our first date that afternoon. I asked him important questions like how often he looks in the mirror, what he watches on TV and what position he prefers to sleep in. He told me it was “the weirdest interview he’s ever done” aka totally fell in love.

I was hesitant at first-Italian men are notorious cheaters and he’s a bit old for my taste (I usually go for young boys who don’t know how to read). But we had undeniable chemistry that everyone in noticed, including Stefano Gabbana, who had to leave the room via being totally jealous (or having to prepare for the show but whatever).
Anyway, I know yall might not understand our romance-our meeting was so quick and I haven’t seen him since. But long distance relationships can work, right? And anyway if he has no time to Skype me I can always just pick up a magazine and see him smiling at me, in the way I only know.

Our one week anniversary is coming up soon-my gift list is registered at La Rinascente and our party will be at Plastic. Till then let me know if yall see him-he hasn’t been answering my calls.

Mollie and her ‘I’m sleeping with David Gandy’ face had a night out at the weekend ...

It was Mollie off The Saturdays’ birthday at the weekend and among her gifts was a big box of smug, probably from her celebrity boyfriend David Gandy.
After pouring the entire contents of the box all over her head, Mollie trotted off to enjoy a night out at a soulless club in London with her famous pals.
And what better way to shake off a hangover by lunching with her insanely ripped new man in a silly little vest top?

DAVID GANDY: SUPERMODEL

Professional boxing trainer Andy Orr of MyGym London has trained some of Britain’s best boxing champions with his unique techniques. He talks about his ’20s inspired gym, the SPASHION shoot, and gloving up with supermodels David Gandy and Sam Webb.

WHAT WAS YOUR BIG BREAK?
In terms of commercial success, when I was first noticed and thrust into the public eye was the Dolce & Gabbana ‘Light Blue’ campaign. Within the fashion industry when I started working with Mario Testino, shot the cover and fashion story and interview in V magazine.
WHAT INFLUENCED YOU TO GET INTO BOXING TRAINING?
I’ve always been hugely sporty and interested in all forms of training and nutrition. I was training for the London Marathon and the many training miles were taking their toll on my knees and joints. Weight training adds bulk and muscle, which is what I needed whilst improving my stamina and recovery time. I also needed to keep the muscle mass I had. Boxing was the perfect solution. I’ve known Andy at MyGym for a while and he offered to train me and I thought who could be better than the trainer of a heavy weight contender.
HOW DO YOU STAY MOTIVATED?
I get bored very easily. I never look to the past, always to the future. Therefore I’m always looking for new experiences, opportunities and challenges. These keep me mentally and physically motivated.
WHO IS YOUR HERO?
Paul Newman. Not just because he stars in most of my favorite films, but also because he’s a complete motor and racing nut like myself, and used his name and profile to raise an incredible amount of money for his own charities.
WHAT’S THE MOST MEMORABLE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR CAREER?
It may be yet to come. I have a book coming out in June in collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana, It’s a book containing all the projects, campaigns, press, shoots we have worked on together, including a lot of new shoots and material.
HAS THERE BEEN A LOW POINT IN YOUR CAREER?
There’s not been one particular low point. However in the modelling and fashion world you have to have a very thick skin and learn to accept rejection, especially when you are casting each and every day at beginning of your career.
WHERE’S HOME FOR YOU NOW? AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT IT?
I’ve always based myself in London. London is amazingly convenient with the amount of travelling I have to do, which can be up to 80 or 90 flights a year. I call London the ‘Hub’ of the world as Europe, and America are both quick and accessible.
I also just think London is still the best capital in the world. To me is has everything. Beauty, history, the best food and the best people, and the weather seems to be improving.
YOUR FAVOURITE FILM OF ALL TIME…?
Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid
HOW DO YOU RELAX?
Exercise and training. Be it skiing, boxing, weight training, rock climbing. Away from that, then it is driving or learning to be a better track racer which I’m pursuing at the moment.
NAME ONE THING YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
My Blackberry
IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANYONE WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHAT WOULD YOU ORDER?
Winston Churchill, Paul Newman or JFK and id order a lot of alcohol as apparently they were all keen drinkers.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING IN THE WORLD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Too much to name.
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: SPORT IS… Getting too focused on money and not enough about competition.

David Gandy approached me to learn the skills of boxing and add to his training schedule. He has a passion for boxing and we now train regularly. He has a right-hand knockout, goodnight dig on him – not bad for a pretty boy!

The SPASHION shoot was shot at MyGym London. Contact Andy Orr: ph: 07985 199 144; email: andy@aldridgeorr.com

Mollie King Mocked By David

The Saturdays' Mollie King is mocked because of her diminutive size by new boyfriend, Dolce and Gabbana model David Gandy.

Mollie King is mocked for her size by boyfriend David Gandy.

The Saturdays singer - who began dating the Dolce and Gabbana model in April - explained the 31-year-old heartthrob is "used to working with model girls" and finds her diminutive frame hilarious.

She explained: "He's really funny. He made me laugh straightaway. He doesn't take himself too seriously, I wouldn't like it if he was a poser.

"He takes the mickey out of me all the time and how tiny I am. He's used to working with model girls who are all 5ft 10in so he's always like, 'Aww, you're so cute with your massive heels."

The blonde beauty - who split from long-term boyfriend Andy Brown in February - also admitted she has never seen David looking bad, which makes her worry about her own looks.

Mollie added to Fabulous magazine: "David and I are having a lot of fun. He's just as good looking in the flesh. He's a very good looking guy so I've never seen him looking bad.

"He wouldn't be able to say the same of me I'm sure!"

Mollie King meets David Gandy's parents.. and they like her

Bad news, ladies...

The romance between Saturdays singer Mollie King and David Gandy has clearly stepped up a notch.
The hunky Essex model has just introduced her to his parents. Boo. And, what's worse, they like her. Grrr.
"Mum Gandy and Dad Gandy are lovely," 23-year-old Mollie told me when I met her and David, 31, at the Marie Claire Inspire & Mentor party in London for the Prince's Trust.
Dave said: "They love Mollie. I was talking about when I was next visiting and they said, 'Just send Mollie don't worry about you'."

The in-laws were my only hope...

Mollie King's already met David Gandy's parents!

We're a bit obsessed with Mollie King dating David Gandy, they are literally the best looking couple in the actual history of the world.

We can't take our eyes off them except to cry with jealousy. And it looks like the pair are getting pretty serious as Mollie admitted last night that she's already met David's parents saying, "Mum Gandy and Dad Gandy are lovely." (it's probably wrong that we're wondering if they are as hot as their son).

David said, "They really love Mollie, I was talking to them about when I was next visiting, and they said just send Mollie, don’t worry about you." Bless.

Mollie and David were at the Marie Claire Inspire & Mentor event in association with the Prince’s Trust held at the W hotel along with Ricky Gervais and Jessica Lowndes you know, that pretty one from 90210 who said she's enjoying London's rubbishy weather, “I absolutely love London, I have been here for a month working on my album, I am from Vancouver so it feels so good to see some clouds, clouds make me feel more like home im home."

Clouds make us feel like we're at home too but that doesn't mean we like them.
