DAVID GANDY: SUPERMODEL

Professional boxing trainer Andy Orr of MyGym London has trained some of Britain’s best boxing champions with his unique techniques. He talks about his ’20s inspired gym, the SPASHION shoot, and gloving up with supermodels David Gandy and Sam Webb.

WHAT WAS YOUR BIG BREAK?
In terms of commercial success, when I was first noticed and thrust into the public eye was the Dolce & Gabbana ‘Light Blue’ campaign. Within the fashion industry when I started working with Mario Testino, shot the cover and fashion story and interview in V magazine.
WHAT INFLUENCED YOU TO GET INTO BOXING TRAINING?
I’ve always been hugely sporty and interested in all forms of training and nutrition. I was training for the London Marathon and the many training miles were taking their toll on my knees and joints. Weight training adds bulk and muscle, which is what I needed whilst improving my stamina and recovery time. I also needed to keep the muscle mass I had. Boxing was the perfect solution. I’ve known Andy at MyGym for a while and he offered to train me and I thought who could be better than the trainer of a heavy weight contender.
HOW DO YOU STAY MOTIVATED?
I get bored very easily. I never look to the past, always to the future. Therefore I’m always looking for new experiences, opportunities and challenges. These keep me mentally and physically motivated.
WHO IS YOUR HERO?
Paul Newman. Not just because he stars in most of my favorite films, but also because he’s a complete motor and racing nut like myself, and used his name and profile to raise an incredible amount of money for his own charities.
WHAT’S THE MOST MEMORABLE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR CAREER?
It may be yet to come. I have a book coming out in June in collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana, It’s a book containing all the projects, campaigns, press, shoots we have worked on together, including a lot of new shoots and material.
HAS THERE BEEN A LOW POINT IN YOUR CAREER?
There’s not been one particular low point. However in the modelling and fashion world you have to have a very thick skin and learn to accept rejection, especially when you are casting each and every day at beginning of your career.
WHERE’S HOME FOR YOU NOW? AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT IT?
I’ve always based myself in London. London is amazingly convenient with the amount of travelling I have to do, which can be up to 80 or 90 flights a year. I call London the ‘Hub’ of the world as Europe, and America are both quick and accessible.
I also just think London is still the best capital in the world. To me is has everything. Beauty, history, the best food and the best people, and the weather seems to be improving.
YOUR FAVOURITE FILM OF ALL TIME…?
Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid
HOW DO YOU RELAX?
Exercise and training. Be it skiing, boxing, weight training, rock climbing. Away from that, then it is driving or learning to be a better track racer which I’m pursuing at the moment.
NAME ONE THING YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
My Blackberry
IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANYONE WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHAT WOULD YOU ORDER?
Winston Churchill, Paul Newman or JFK and id order a lot of alcohol as apparently they were all keen drinkers.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING IN THE WORLD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Too much to name.
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: SPORT IS… Getting too focused on money and not enough about competition.

David Gandy approached me to learn the skills of boxing and add to his training schedule. He has a passion for boxing and we now train regularly. He has a right-hand knockout, goodnight dig on him – not bad for a pretty boy!

David Gandy: The Book

"Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do."
Johann von Goeth

Well I've talked about it for long enough, and now I can finally reveal the new project that I have been working on with Dolce and Gabbana. On June 20, we will be releasing the David Gandy book.

I'm so proud of this project. Firstly, it is the first time that Dolce & Gabbana have put together a coffee table style book of images for one of their male muses and the first British (maybe even international), male model to have this privilege. Secondly, looking back over all the work that we have done together whilst compiling the book has been an amazing recollection of memories and fun times - and so I'm looking forward to the book release as a kind of celebration of everyone's combined dedication, commitment and hard work. I couldn't have imagined in my wildest dreams when I first start working together with Dolce and Gabbana over 6 years ago, that I would ever have my own book. For Domenico and Stefano to consider me for this is a great, great honour.

Don't worry you won't have to ensue an entire book of my writing - well just a little. The book is full of images from virtually every shoot, including campaigns, fashion shows, calendars, press, editorials etc that myself and Dolce and Gabbana have worked on together. This will obviously then include images by the world's leading photographers, including Mario Testino, Steven Klein, Arnaldo Anaya-Lucca, and it will also include new images shot by Mariano Vivanco on location in NYC - which I personally think are some of the most striking images we have worked on together.

Profits from the book will go towards the EUPLOOS Project in Italy that aims to put the entire collection of the Gabinetto Disegno e Stampe degli Uffizi in Florence online (drawings, photographs, prints, miniatures, etc), thus creating a complete, accessible computerised catalogue worldwide for future generations. Artists include Botticelli, Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo to Dürer, Rubens and Claude Lorrain, along with many others - including contemporary masters of the stature of Giorgio Morandi, Fausto Melotti, Alberto Giacometti and Sol Lewitt. It's a great cause and I hope that you enjoy it - The book will be available at Dolce & Gabbana stores worldwide starting June 20.

Many new projects, ideas and opportunities are on the horizon at the moment. Another exciting project is my fitness/nutrition app that will be developed over the summer. The idea has not only come from the fact that after over ten years of experience (and much trial and error), I think I can produce a very comprehensive and developed fitness and training program that would really simplify what can be a complicated world of fitness/dieting/training, but also from demand and people regularly asking me questions - even from people writing comments on my previous blogs (yes I do read each and every comment). All of this has motivated me to go ahead with this project, so I hope that it helps those of you who are interested in keeping in shape.

Mollie King Mocked By David

The Saturdays' Mollie King is mocked because of her diminutive size by new boyfriend, Dolce and Gabbana model David Gandy.

Mollie King is mocked for her size by boyfriend David Gandy.

The Saturdays singer - who began dating the Dolce and Gabbana model in April - explained the 31-year-old heartthrob is "used to working with model girls" and finds her diminutive frame hilarious.

She explained: "He's really funny. He made me laugh straightaway. He doesn't take himself too seriously, I wouldn't like it if he was a poser.

"He takes the mickey out of me all the time and how tiny I am. He's used to working with model girls who are all 5ft 10in so he's always like, 'Aww, you're so cute with your massive heels."

The blonde beauty - who split from long-term boyfriend Andy Brown in February - also admitted she has never seen David looking bad, which makes her worry about her own looks.

Mollie added to Fabulous magazine: "David and I are having a lot of fun. He's just as good looking in the flesh. He's a very good looking guy so I've never seen him looking bad.

"He wouldn't be able to say the same of me I'm sure!"

David Gandy And Mollie King

Mollie King meets David Gandy's parents.. and they like her

Bad news, ladies...

The romance between Saturdays singer Mollie King and David Gandy has clearly stepped up a notch.
The hunky Essex model has just introduced her to his parents. Boo. And, what's worse, they like her. Grrr.
"Mum Gandy and Dad Gandy are lovely," 23-year-old Mollie told me when I met her and David, 31, at the Marie Claire Inspire & Mentor party in London for the Prince's Trust.
Dave said: "They love Mollie. I was talking about when I was next visiting and they said, 'Just send Mollie don't worry about you'."

The in-laws were my only hope...

Mollie King's already met David Gandy's parents!

We're a bit obsessed with Mollie King dating David Gandy, they are literally the best looking couple in the actual history of the world.

We can't take our eyes off them except to cry with jealousy. And it looks like the pair are getting pretty serious as Mollie admitted last night that she's already met David's parents saying, "Mum Gandy and Dad Gandy are lovely." (it's probably wrong that we're wondering if they are as hot as their son).

David said, "They really love Mollie, I was talking to them about when I was next visiting, and they said just send Mollie, don’t worry about you." Bless.

Mollie and David were at the Marie Claire Inspire & Mentor event in association with the Prince’s Trust held at the W hotel along with Ricky Gervais and Jessica Lowndes you know, that pretty one from 90210 who said she's enjoying London's rubbishy weather, “I absolutely love London, I have been here for a month working on my album, I am from Vancouver so it feels so good to see some clouds, clouds make me feel more like home im home."

Clouds make us feel like we're at home too but that doesn't mean we like them.

Mollie King goes from scruffy Saturday to perfectly preened for a night out with new beau David Gandy at Tunnel Of Love party

Good-looking couple: Mollie met up with her model man David Gandy inside the party

Mollie was grinning from ear to ear inside the party, where she met up with Gandy after they avoided being photographed together on arrival.

The 31-year-old model was dapper as always grey suit and open-necked blue shirt.

Mollie and her Essex-born beau - now one of the highest-paid models in the country - met at a party in March, and have been quietly dating ever since.

The singer split from ex-boyfriend Andy Brown in early 2011. Gandy, who became a household name for the Dolce & Gabbana advertisement showing him in a tiny pair of white pants, has been linked with Lily Cole and Lindsay Lohan.
